Australian Cattle Dog

Not only is the Australian Cattle Dog responsible of the livelihood of many continental beef farmers, it is a favorite companion dog in Australia. Standing 17-20 inches high, the Cattle Dog is a medium-size dog with incredible assertiveness and ardor. Because of the way it moves cattle, by nipping at the heels of the herd, it has been called the Queensland Heeler and Blue Heeler. Not all members are blue (that is, blue or black speckled); an equally attractive red-speckled coloration exists. The working qualities of the breed are continually bred for, as it is the dog’s ability to herd large cattle that has gained it the respect of the Australian people. Its temperament borders on the wild, reminiscent of the Dingo’s blood, infused for the breed’s creation. With family members, however, the breed is consistent and affectionate.
