Border Collie

The Border Collie is a small collie type, standing 18-20 inches, and comes from Great Britain. Border Collies are exceptional working dogs today and breeders continue to emphasize their herding abilities. Instincts are strong and mot dogs are involved with herding trials or actual farm situations. Scotch collies are the basis for Border Collie stock. In England and Australia, the Border is one of the more popular companion dog breeds, while in the U.S., they are not as common a pet. A good number of Border Collies in the United States are not registered with the A.K.C., since their owners are not terribly interested in “show qualities.” The breed has an insatiable desire to please its master and must be kept busy. An unoccupied Border is an unhappy Border: a Border without sheep cannot be “boreder.” Exercise, naturally, is a big must and Borders love kids, especially kids small enough to herd around the yard.
