About English Cocker Spaniel
The English Cocker Spaniel is an ages-old land spaniel developed on the British Isles for the purpose of flushing game, particularly the woodcock. At this task the English Cocker Spaniel excelled, and soon the breed’s good nature and fortitude brought new fanciers from every facet of the canine world to the pleasures of keeping an English Cocker Spaniel, a breed especially popular in Britain today. The English Cocker Spaniel, or simply Cocker Spaniel in England, stands 16 inches tall and weighs about 30 pounds, making him slightly larger than the American Cocker Spaniel. The bred is still commonly employed as an active gundog, yet many are kept solely as companions. Perhaps the ideal home is one with an active owner or weekend sportsman. The breed delights in the company of humans and is remarkable trainable. The coat is abundant on the underbody, with feathering on the ears and limbs, making considerable grooming a necessity.
